14-and-unders open with wins

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County 14-and-under all-star teams began District III play on Monday in Bainbridge with a pair of one-sided victories.
Colquitt County B scored eight runs in the first inning and 10 more in the third in its 18-3 victory over Worth County.
The B team will meet the winner of today’s Bainbridge-Tift County game at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Tift County won over Grady County earlier on Monday.
Jacob Tompkins, Russell Hanson and Blake Jenkins each pitched an inning for Colquitt County.
Hanson, Amel Magwood and Beau Weathers each had a pair of hits for Colquitt County. One of Weathers’ hits was a home run.
Michael Amore also had a hit.
The Colquitt County A team also won easily, dropping Bainbridge to the losers bracket with a 19-2 victory.
Payne Newsome, Tyler Dismuke and Mark Lindsey each had three hits and Stephen Moore, Daylon Connell, Davis Durham and Ryan Sherling each had two for Colquitt County.
Connell had the game’s biggest hit, a grand slam.
Durham and Alex Tillman did the pitching for Colquitt County.
The A team will meet Lee County at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Lee County advanced with a victory over Thomasville earlier on Monday.
The District III championship game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Friday.
The district champion will advance to the state tournament, to be held July 12-15 in Glynn County.
The 14-and-under A all-stars are coached by Shannon Dickerson.
His team includes Daylon Connell, Stephen Moore, Taylor Barber, Nathan Cato, Shelton Lott, Russ DeMott, Ryan Sherling, Davis Durham, Payne Newsome, Tyler Dismuke, Mark Lindsey, Jonathan Cauthen and Alex Tillman.
The Colquitt County B all-stars, coached by Keith Dell, include Beau Weathers, Russell Hanson, Jacob Tompkins, Blake Jenkins, Michael Amore, Travis Baker, Tyler Powell, Christopher Johnson, Caleb Norman, Amel Magwood and Colby Johnson.
Colquitt County’s 10-and-under and 12-and-under all-star teams will begin their tournament competition next week.
The 10-and-under all-stars will play in the machine-pitch District III tournament that begins next Monday in Leesburg. The B all-stars will play at 6 p.m. Monday against Crisp County
The A all-stars drew a first-round bye and will face the Sylvester-Thomasville winner at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 27.
The championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, June 30.
The tournament champion will advance to the state tournament, to be held July 19-22 in Vidalia.
The Colquitt County A all-stars, coached by Joey Hathcock, include Mack Hathcock, John Gray, Eric Gould, Drew Penuel, Preston Berry, Jonah Bozeman, Daniel Mobley, Cason Wells, Tony Simpson, O’Shay Williams, Alex Pate, Gabe Mobley, Eli Stripling and Dontae Barfield.
The B all-stars, coached by Allen Dalton, include Andy Bush, Ryan Chatman, Blake Lee, Hunter Lott, Colby Reneker, Ross Goforth, Beau Dalton, Tristin Frazier, Austin Mercer, Dalton Dillon, Timothy Clay, Quint Pitts and Cole Bryant.
The 12-and-under all-stars will play in a sub-district tournament beginning Monday in Thomasville.
The two Colquitt County teams will be joined by teams from Mitchell County, Thomasville, Grady County and Bainbridge.
The other sub-district tournament will be played in Americus and will include teams from Americus, Syvlester, Lee County and Tifton and two teams from Crisp County.
The two sub-district champions will meet to determine the District III champion on Thursday, July 6, in Thomasville.
The state tournament is scheduled for July 19-22 in Waycross.
Beth Redding will coach the A all-stars, who will face Thomasville B at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Thomasville.
Her players are Bryce Giddens, Megan May, Brice Redding, Jared May, Blake Bennett, Jim Harrison, Matt Creech, Vann Pitts, Skyler Lindsey, Corey Moore, Jimmy Skeen, Dillon Presley and Alex Littleton.
The Colquitt County B all-stars, who are coached by Chad Eunice, also will open tournament play at 5:30 p.m. next Monday, facing Grady County.
The B team includes Andrew Eunice, Daren Kent, Aubrey McCarty, Tyler Yost, Andrew Carlton, Tyroni Walker, Anderson Glenn, McCants Plymel, Roy Fuentes, Darryl Williamson, Clayton Brown and Cody Carr.
