Harper-McCall, Lazarus win titles

MOULTRIE — Harper-McCall and Lazarus finished strong to win the the Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Department’s Midget League and Farm League baseball championships.

Harper-McCall needed a victory on Friday against Mobley Plant to claim the Midget League title and did it with gusto, defeating Mobley Plant 15-1.

Lazarus finished off a 15-2 season with a 15-2 victory Random Design on Thursday that nailed down the Farm League championship.

In the victory over Random Design, Drew Penuel and John Gray each had three hits and Mack Hathcock, Eric Gould, Dontae Barfield, Braden Flinchum and Kendrick Barton each had two hits for Lazarus.

Jim Waldrop had two hits for Random Design, which finished 1-16.

Also on Thursday, Custom Cabinets defeated Ameris 8-2 to finish its Farm League season with a 14-4 record.

Blake Lee, Ryan Chatman, William Bell and Matthew Wilkerson each had three hits and Oshay Williams, Adam Merritt, T.J. Roberson and Matthew McCrae each had two hits for Custom Cabinets.

Will Roberts, Ryan Pipkin and Hudson May each had two hits for Ameris, 1-16.

Zaxby’s completed its Farm League season with an 8-6 victory over Wendy’s.

Preston Berry had three hits and Perry Wiard, Ryan Wallace and Adam Webb each had two for Zaxby’s.

Tristin Frazier, Austin Mercer, Gabe Mobley and Dalton Dillon each had two for Wendy’s, which finished 13-5.

On Friday, Farm Bureau shut out Rocky’s 10-0 in its final Farm League game of the season.

Nick Nichols had three hits and Jared Howard, Jay Tolbert, Wade Hawes, Hart Sumner and McKenzie Blanchett each had two hits for Farm Bureau, which ends 7-11.

Southwest Georgia Bank finished an excellent season with a 10-3 victory over McAlpin Signs.

Ben Shiflett had three hits and Cason Wells, Daniel Mobley, Samuel Smith, Charlie Zeanah, Warren Funderburk and Colby Reneker each had two hits for Southwest Georgia Bank, which finishes 14-4.

Eli Stripling, Ross Goforth and Ryan Clifton each had three hits and Timothy Clay and Jacob Hilton each had two for McAlpin Signs, which concluded its season with an 8-10 record.

The Midget League championship was still up for grabs on Friday.

Harper-McCall would win with a victory over Mobley Plant at 6 p.m. But if Harper-McCall lost and Market Barbecue defeated Quality Employment in the 7:30 p.m. game, Market Barbecue would take the championship.

Harper-McCall ended the speculation quickly.

Bryce Giddens was the winning pitcher and had three hits, including a home run.

Meagan May had three hits and Brice Redding added two more as Harper-McCall finished its season with a 13-2-1 record.

Aubrey McCarty had two hits for Mobley Plant, which ended with a 6-10 record.

Market Barbecue finished strong with a 15-4 victory over Quality Employment.

Jim Harrison was the winning pitcher. Andrew Eunice and Britt Jones each had three hits and Harrison, McCants Plymel and Anthony Brumbley each had two for Market Barbecue, which finished with a 13-3 record.

Cody Carr had three hits for Quality Employment, 3-13.

On Thursday, Southwest Georgia Insurance finished its season with a 12-3-1 record when its defeated Davis Insurance 14-4.

Vann Pitts was the winning pitcher and joined Matt Creech, Tyler Yost and Tanner Strickland in contributing two hits for Southwest Georgia Insurance.

Paul Leonard and Alex Littleton each had two hits for Davis Insurance, 6-10.

In its final game of the season, Southwest Georgia Bank shut out Ameris 10-0.

Corey Moore was the winning pitcher. Andrew Carlton had three hits, Moore had two and Skyler Lindsey had a home run for Southwest Georgia Bank, 12-4.
