SW Ga. Insurance, Harper-McCall meet tonight

MOULTRIE — Southwest Georgia Insurance and Harper-McCall will meet at 7:30 tonight at the Magnolia Sports Complex with first place in the Midget League in the balance.

The two teams will take identical 11-2-1 records into the game and each will have just one other to play in the season, which will end on Friday.

The two battled to a 4-4 tie when they met on April 28. Harper-McCall has gone 5-2 since then; Southwest Georgia Bank has gone 6-1.

Each won its last game last week to set up the showdown.

Harper-McCall blanked Ameris 10-0 on Thursday; Southwest Georgia Insurance edged Southwest Georgia Bank 4-3 on Friday.

Southwest Georgia Insurance jumped out to a 4-0 lead, then held off Southwest Georgia Bank, which falls to 10-4.

Tyler Yost was the winning pitcher and had two hits.Vann Pitts went 3-for-3 and Matt Creech had two hits for Southwest Georgia Insurance.

Jimmy Skeen had two hits for Southwest Georgia Bank.

Southwest Georgia Insurance will close out its season against Davis Insurance on Thursday. Harper-McCall will finish up with Mobley Plant on Friday.

In last Friday’s other Midget League game, Davis Insurance defeated Edwards Motors 4-2.

Daren Kent was the winning pitcher and had three hits. Alex Littleton had two hits for Davis Insurance, which raised its record to 6-9.

Drew Marchant had two hits for Edwards Motors, now 4-11.

In Friday’s Tiny Mites action, Larry’s Bait and Tackle defeated Holman Supply 14-7 and Southwest Georgia Bank edged Mprints 8-7.

The Tiny Mite season will end tonight with Winn-Dixie meeting Mobley Plant at 6 p.m.; Baell Mercantile facing Pizza Inn at 7 p.m.; and Quality Employment playing Southwest Georgia Bank at 8 p.m.

Ameris dropped a pair of Farm League games last Friday.

It was forced to forfeit to Random in its first game. Then, with a full complement of players, Ameris fell to McAlpin Signs 11-1.

Eli Stripling, Ryan Clifton, Ross Goforth, John Baker, Timothy Clay, Austin Hunnicutt and Austin Kinard each had two hits for McAlpin Signs, now 8-9.

Tonight in Farm League action, Zaxby’s will meet Southwest Georgia Bank; Lazarus will play Farm Bureau; and Rocky’s will face Wendy’s.
