Mary Elizabeth Cooper Smithson
MOULTRIE– Mary Elizabeth Cooper Smithson, 86, of Moultrie died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005 at The Colquitt Regional Medical Center in Moultrie. She was the owner of Cooper Flower Shop for 68 years.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Tyson United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cecil Felts and Rev. Wayne Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery. Lawton Matthews, James Beaty, Art Ellis, Alan Dalton, Gene Hiers and Hugh Matthews will serve as pallbearers.
Born May 22, 1919, in Brooks County, Mrs. Smithson was the daughter of the late Emma Taylor Cooper and the late King Henry Cooper.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Miles Smithson, sister, Annie Laurie Cooper, and one stepson, Thomas Smithson.
Survivors include daughters Mary Miles Blackmon (Burt) of McDonough, Ida Smithson Connell (George) of San Francisco and stepdaughter Anna Kilgo (Billy) of Battleboro, N.C.; two grandchildren Libby Blackmon Ferguson (Chip) of Birmingham and Chuck Blackmon of Locust Grove and four stepgrandchildren.

Melvadine Renae Bailey Jones
MOULTRIE — Melvadine Renae Bailey Jones, 47, of Panama City, Fla., died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center in Moultrie.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Kilgore officiating. Burial will follow at Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens.
Born Nov. 3, 1957, in Ft. Pierce, Fla., Mrs. Jones was the daughter of the late Cynthia Mae Willis Jackson and the late James Bailey and stepdaughter of Paul A. Jackson of Norman Park.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Ginger Ann Jackson Johnson.
Survivors include her husband, Ricky Jones of Pleasant Shade, Tenn., sons, Michael Wayne Ross and Ricky Joe Jones Jr. of Panama City and James Harold Jones of Cartridge, Tenn.; brothers Almus James Bailey of Nunnely, Tenn., Herbert Henry Bailey of White Bluff, Tenn., Vernon Dale Bailey of Riverton, Wyo., David Franklin Bailey of Dixon, Tenn., William Andrew Bailey of Columbia, Tenn., and Gerald Arthur Jackson of Bainbridge; sisters Donna Francine Thompson of Columbia, Tenn., Verna Carolene Szentmantoni of Okeechobee, Fla., and Mary Jane Archer of Point Saint Lucie, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

MOULTRIE — Cynthia Mae Willis Jackson, 74, of Norman Park died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005 at The Colquitt Regional Medical Center in Moultrie.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Kilgore officiating. Burial will follow at Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens.
Born Oct. 5, 1930 in Telequa, Okla., Mrs. Jackson was the daughter of the late Florence Atkinson Willis and the late Almus Willis.
She was preceded in death by her daughters Melvadine Renae Bailey Jones and Ginger Ann Jackson Jones.
Survivors include her husband Paul A. Vida Hilliard Hathcock
VALDOSTA — Vida Hilliard Hathcock, 76, of Valdosta died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at The South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Harris officiating and the eulogy given by Jesse Henderson. Burial will follow at Sparks City Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Hugh Hathcock of Valdosta; her daughter, Kim H. Barker of Moultrie; her brother, the Rev. Russell Hilliard of Ridgecrest, N.C.; her sister, Mary Alice Simmons of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; and her sister-in-law, Peggy Hilliard of Adel.
The family will recieve friends at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.

Cornelia Pattillo Hardy
MOULTRIE — Cornelia Pattillo Hardy, 83, of Moultrie died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Pincrest Memory Gardens with the Rev. Hugh Ward officiating.
Born July 11, 1922, in Colquitt County, Mrs. Hardy was the daughter of the late Cornelia Hatfield Pattillo and the late Dr. Robert Edward Lee Pattillo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lee Hardy Sr., and her brother, Robert Edward Pattillo Jr.
Survivors include her sons, James L. Hardy Jr. (Mary) of Rockingham, N.C., and Robert E. Hardy of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughters, Cornelia H. Mullins (David) of Medon, Tenn., and Jane Brown of Moultrie; sisters, Evelyn P. Cope and Mary Leila S. Thomas of Moultrie, Robbelee P. Arwood of Maitland, Fla., and Sandra P. Enfinger of Thomasville; three granddaughters; eight grandsons; three great-grandaughters; and three great-grandsons.
The family will receive visitors at Harrell-Faircloth Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Donations can be made to CRM Foundation or the charity of choice.

Gertrude Wyche Lewis
MOULTRIE — Gertrude Wyche Lewis, 90, of Moultrie died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center in Moultrie.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. John W. Greene Jr. officiating, assisted by the Rev. Alfred Jones. Burial will follow at St. James Pallbearers Cemetery No, 2. Dale Wise, Lucious Thomas, Eugene Ward, Kelvin Jackson, William Hicks and WIllie James Robison Jr. will serve as pallbearers and the deacons of the church will serve as honrary pallbearers. The Women’s Auxiliary will serve as flower attendants.
Born Dec. 25, 1914, in Colquitt County, Mrs. Lewis was the daughter of the late James Wyche and the late Willie Mae Wyche.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rest Lewis; one sister, Mildred Johnson; and two brothers, Billy Wyche and James Wyche Jr.
Survivors include one daughter, Bernice Blunt, and two brothers, Buford Wyche (Emma) and Clarence Wyche, all of Moultrie; two granddaughters, Annie Joyce Adams (Sam) of Albany and Mary A. Strong of Moultrie; eight great-grandchildren, Pamela Simmons (Sherman) of Columbia, S.C., Fonda Strong, Kimberly Persley (Michael, who is serving in Iraq) of Albany and Jonathan Strong of Moultrie, Hope Adams, Joy Adams, and Connie Adams of Albany and Carmen Adams of Marietta; three great-great-grandchildren, Tyrik Adams, Kavaunte Perry and Kyarra Perry of Albany; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Wayne Lawson
MOULTRIE — Kenneth Wayne Lawson, 48, of Moultrie died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at Mother Easter Baptist Church with the Rev. E.H. Hopkins officiating, assisted by the Rev. Charles Dorsey, Elder J.W. Lewis and Elder Leroy Sampson. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memory Garden.
Mr. Lawson was born May 9, 1957, the oldest of three children, to the late Nathaniel and Luvenia Lawson of Newark, N.J. He was a graduate of Weequahic High School in Newark and attended Albany State University. He specialized in medicine in the U.S. Air Force throughout his life and he specialized in transportation and personal care.
He is survived by this wife of eight years, Patricia A. Lawson of Moultrie, two daughters, Samantha Lawson of Tifton and Katrina Lawson of Moultrie; a sister, Natalie K. Lawson of Atlanta, and a brother, Ronald Lawson of Douglasville; two aunts, Dorothy Ross and Eugenia Sampson (Elder Leroy Sampson), and one uncle, Russell Harris Jr. (Christine), all of Hawkinsville; one great-aunt, Minnie Franklin of Newark, N.J.; one stepson, Marcus A. Winberiy of Columbus; two stepdaughters, Tinika D. Wimberly of Thomasville and Jennifer C. Wimberly of Moultrie; one granddaughter, Jayla E. HIghtower; two stepgrandsons, Jailin and Jaquan Myrick of Thomasville; one mother-in-law, Ruby Hopkins (Alvin) of Thomasville; stepfather-in-law, Cleveland Walker of Thomasville; three brothers-in-law, Timothy (Charron) Hopkins, Harry (Sylvia) Hansberrry of Houston, Texas, and Dennis (Carolyn) Johnson of Montgomery Ala.; one sister-in-law, Jacqueline Hopkins; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
