Boys and Girls Club Day for Kids looks to unite families together
MOULTRIE – The Boys and Girls Club of Moultrie/Colquitt County is getting ready to celebrate its annual Day for Kids event on Sept. 15 at the Court House Square.
This year’s Day for Kids is shaping up to be one of the biggest yet as more than 200 parents and children will be participating in the event.
There will be over 15 vendors, 12 games and bounce houses set up for the community. Other organizations such as Peach State and Immigration will be there to give parents information about what’s going on in the community.
Joel Jenkins, program director of the Boys and Girls Club of Moultrie/ Colquitt County, says this event is bigger than the Boys and Girls Club itself; it’s about the bigger picture.
“This event is bigger than the Boys and Girls Club,” said Jenkins. “This event is about trying to get parents involved with their kids. That is so important, especially in this age of social media, bullying and peer pressure. It’s very important for parents to ask their kids, ‘Hey, how was your day, hey is there anything you want to talk about?’ So we try to give them this one day so they can spend it with their kids.”
The annual day for kids is celebrated by every Boys and Girls Club in America during the third Saturday of September each year. The idea stemmed from people seeing parents less and less involved with their kids so they came up with this day and it has been a success.
