MOULTRIE — An anonymous caller’s report of a domestic dispute resulted in police jailing a couple on probation charges on Tuesday at their residence.

John Todd Barfield, 29, also was charged with simple battery. He and Patricia Ann Dunn were each charged with one count each of probation violation.

Officers responded just before midnight to 209 Dorothy St., where Dunn, who identified Barfield as her boyfriend, told police they had been arguing in their front yard. During that incident he grabbed her around the neck and pushed her onto a parked car, she reported.

Witnesses who came outside reported seeing Barfield choking Dunn, police said. He left when they told him they had called the police.

A check turned up an active warrant for Dunn, and she was taken into custody at that time. She had a minor scratch to her neck but did not need medical attention, police said.

At about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday Barfield returned home and he was placed under arrest.

She was sitting in the passenger seat and said she had been talking with her friend, who fled, taking the ignition key, just before officers arrived.

The family of the truck’s owner told police that they wanted the truck towed, police said, and when they took an inventory of the truck found a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson pistol under the driver’s seat and suspected cocaine and a pipe under the passenger seat.
