Mary Tucker Dodson, 90, of Valdosta, Ga., died Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, at the Langdale Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Monday, Aug. 22, at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Mack Weaver and Dr. Phil West will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Born in Colquitt County to the late George T. and Emma S. Tucker, she grew up in Colquitt, Turner and Tift counties. In addition to being a homemaker, she was also a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant for the past 37 years. She was a past member of the Valdosta Garden Club, the Valdosta Country Club Ladies Golf Association and the Georgia Seniors Golf Association. In 1954, she helped organize a neighborhood coffee club that met monthly for more than 50 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Valdosta and past president of the Joy Fidelis Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Frederick C. Dodson; a daughter-in-law, Tanya Brooks Dodson; two sisters, Emma Grace Tucker and Izetta Feketey; and six brothers, Darrell Tucker, Mack Tucker, Tommy Tucker, Hayes Tucker, Wallace Tucker and Jack Tucker.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Duane and Anne Dodson of Albany, Ga., and Loren Dodson of Valdosta, Ga.; two grandchildren and their spouses, Drew and Lindley Dodson of Austin, Texas, and Russell and Katherine Dodson of Miami, Fla.; one great grandchild, Shaw Elizabeth Dodson of Austin, Texas; a sister, Betty Chapman of Tifton, Ga.; three sisters-in-law, Tez Tucker of Tifton, Ga., Patty Tucker of Albany, Ga., and Nell Tucker Coombs of Cairo, Ga.; and her cousins, numerous nieces and nephews and her Mary Kay family.
The family will receive friends at Carson McLane Funeral Home, today, Aug. 21, from 4 until 6 p.m.
