Shooting suspect turns self in
MOULTRIE – A Moultrie man wanted in connection with a June 30 drive-by shooting in which a teen-ager was struck by five bullets was in custody on Monday.
Police identified Nathaniel Powell IV, 20, as the suspect in the shooting of 18-year-old Lantavious De’John Haynes. Haynes was struck multiple times while he and three other people were walking at about 1 p.m. in the 1700 block of Third Avenue South-east.
“Nate Powell turned himself in this morning,” Moultrie Police Department Lt. Freddie Williams said Monday.
Powell was in custody at Colquitt County Jail on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Haynes was taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville after the shooting. He was released from the hospital on Friday.
In other arrests:
• John Trent Loftin, 62, 2706 Fifth Ave. S.E., was charged Saturday with theft by shoplifting.
Loftin was arrested by police who were investigated a reported shoplifting at Wal-Mart, 641 Veterans Parkway S.
Police said that a store security officer who detained Loftin recovered two jars of oysters and a pack of steaks, and that when an officer searched the man he found he found a pack of three sports bras on him.
The total value of the merchandise recovered was $44.
• Clarissa Beck, 19, 901 Seventh Ave. S.E., was charged Thursday with simple battery.
• Tamar Dyshawn Hill, 29, 1015 Third St. S.E., was charged Thursday with criminal trespass and two counts simple battery.
• Benjamin James Mathis Jr., 64,16 Willow Lane, was charged Saturday with driving under the influence (test refusal).

• Kimberly Joan Carroll, 44, 985 Circle Road, was charged Saturday with driving while license withdrawn.
• Richie Carter, 35, 130 Wood Ave., Pavo, was charged Friday with harassing phone calls.
• Miguel Vargas, 41, 384 E. Monroe Ave., Ashburn, was charged Saturday with driving under the influence, driving without license and failure to drive within single lane.
• Donna Diane Keen, 36, 960 St. Paul Road, Thomasville, was charged Saturday with loitering and probation violation.
• Ricardo Breshard Bodiford, 32, 506 Northside Drive, was charged June 27 with possession of marijuana with intent and probation violation.
• Courtney Carter, 29, 130 Wood St., was charged Friday with bail jumping.
• Riziko Armand Davis, 36, 1302 First Ave. N.W., was charged Sunday with financial transaction card fraud.

• Jessica Morrell, 200 block Halls Trail, reported Saturday that a male relative threw a set of keys, striking her in the right eye.
Police were dispatched to the residence where Morrell reported that the man was trying to fight her and her boyfriend, and that the man had a gun.
Deputies made one arrest.
