Packers open with strong
296 for fifth at Osprey Cove

MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County boys golf team got its 2025 season off to a strong start with a 296, good for fifth place, in the Camden Classic held Saturday at Osprey Cove Golf Club in St. Marys.
The score was the lowest a Packers team has shot in several years.
And Colquitt was able to produce the score despite the absence of 2024 All-State selection Michael Hall, who was unable to play on Saturday.
Ninth-grader Cavin Hall performed admirably in his older brother’s stead, shooting a 70 and earning a berth on the all-tournament team.
“Cavin is one of the best – if the not the best – freshmen in the state,” Packers coach Andrew Eunice said.
The Packers also counted a 74 from Reese Hood, a 75 from Jacob Rowell and a 77 from Peyton Collins.
All three are sophomores.
Rowell’s and Hood’s scores were their tournament lows.
Leighton Hood shot a 79 and Dawson Lane an 84.
They, too, are 10th-graders.
“The sophomore group of kids have all worked extremely hard this past year,” Eunice said. “They are capable of shooting the best on the team and under par this year.”
Lowndes finished first with a 287, a stroke better than the score produced by second-place Coffee.
In addition to Lowndes and Colquitt County, Region 1-6A was represented by Richmond Hill, Tift County and tournament host Camden County.
All finished in the top 10 in the 20-team field.
“Region will be tough,” Eunice said. “A lot of good teams in it. Lowndes has been the top dog for awhile.”
The Packers will meet Lowndes in a match scheduled for Thursday, February 20, at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta.
Eunice indicated Michael Hall will play against the Vikings.
On Monday, February 24, Colquitt will compete in Valdosta High’s Wildcat Invitational at Stone Creek Country Club.
Colquitt County will play host to its annual Packer Invitational on Saturday, March 29, at Sunset Country Club.
Also on the Colquitt County roster this season are Eddie Walden and Brayden Nolan.
Eunice’s assistant coaches are Jeremy Rowell, Todd Hall, Chad Eunice and Griffin Dunn.
