Kirkland wins middle school meet

MOULTRIE — Colquitt County’s Elizabeth Ann Kirkland took first place in the girls competition at the Westminster Middle School Invitational held Friday at the Westminster Schools in Atlanta.

Just a sixth-grader, Kirkland scored a 219.20 to win over Westminster’s Sara Grady, who had a 185.15.

Colquitt County took two of the top three spots in the girls competition when Ana Jiminez, a seventh-grader, placed third with a 155.80.

The girls part of the meet drew 16 entries.

In the boys part of the meet, Colquitt County’s Tevin Hightower was third with a 174.80, finishing less than three points out of second place.

The boys meet was won by Oconee’s David Zarb, who had a 233.55. Morgan Stevens was second with a 177.50.

“I was real pleased with how they did,” said Colquitt County coach Ed Goodman.

“We’ve got another meet on Jan. 19 we’ve got to get ready for and it’s going to be bigger than this one.”

The Jan. 19 meet will be at Marist.
