Truck driver charged in fatal June crash

MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie semi-truck driver has been charged in a head-on collision in June that killed a Worth County woman.

Predest Wright was charged on Friday with a homicide by vehicle, according to Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office jail booking reports.

Wright was driving a semi loaded with wood on June 8 that collided with a Dodge pickup truck driven by Kristen Smith on Highway 133 North, about three miles north of Moultrie, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Smith, 26, had picked up her mother, Shelia Marie Alston, in Georgia and was heading south, returning to Florida with her, at the time of the accident.

Alston, 42, was killed in the collision in the south-bound lane of the highway. The semi truck came to rest on the west side of the roadway partially on top of the Dodge.

Smith told troopers that the semi truck was in her lane as the driver passed another car. She moved to the left and the semi went in the same direction.

Both drivers apparently again swerved in the same direction in an attempt to avoid a collision, but instead ended up crashing into each other.

Wright, 67, 2821 Astoria Drive, also was charged with speeding.
