SYLVESTER — Worth County will be looking for a new head football coach.

Frankie Carroll, who has led the Rams for the past two years on the sidelines, has stepped down, according to a press release from the Worth County school system Monday.

“During a called Worth County Board of Education meeting today, Nov. 4, the school board unanimously voted to support the superintendent’s recommendation to accept Coach Frankie Carroll’s resignation as Worth County’s head football coach,” said Superintendent Bill Settle in the release.

Carroll will retain his position as athletic director, a role he has had since 2015. Since taking over from former head coach Ben Simmons in 2018, Carroll’s Rams have gone 3-17. Their two wins in 2019 are the best season for the team since 2016. Worth finished the season Friday with a 40-28 loss to Monroe.

“I would like to thank Coach Carroll for his service to our football program over the past two seasons,” said Settle. “Coach Carroll took over the program on short notice with many obstacles to overcome and I believe he served beyond approach in that task. Although improvement doesn’t always materialize immediately in the form of wins, the program has improved in many areas.”

Carroll had a wealth of experience prior to moving to Worth County. He won a state championship at Madison County, Fla., in 2007 and had multiple state tournament appearances. Carroll coached at Pelham from 2011-14, his last stop before becoming Worth’s athletic director.

“It is time to move forward for our community, players, and student body as we begin the search for Worth County’s next head football coach,” said Settle. “The search will be conducted by the superintendent and the high school principal. Our goal is to find the right fit as quickly as possible, however, time alone will not rush us to just make a hire just for the sake of hiring someone. The district is hopeful that there will be a new head coach in place by the end of February.”
