Georgia High School Golf Coaches stage North-South match at Sunset

MOULTRIE – On Wednesday and Thursday, recently graduated high school golfers (and a few underclassmen) were on the course of Sunset Country Club to play the North-South match play tournament put on by the Georgia High School Golf Coaches Association.

The North team consisted of boys and girls players from such schools as Creekview, Blessed Trinity, North Cobb, Harrison, South Forsyth, North Hall, Gainesville, Habersham Central, Mill Creek and White County.

On the South squad, three members of the Colquitt County High team took part, though all of them will be back to play for coach Donald Dale in 2018. They are Harrison Kebler, Lance Blanchett and Peyton Clark. They joined players from schools like Starr’s Mill, Northgate, Carrollton, Jones County, Burke County, Ware County and Columbus.

On Wednesday, it was foursomes play with winning pairs earning one point. Kebler and Blanchett were among the victors for the South, 4 & 3 against Hunter Worley of Gainesville and Dawson Fricks of Habersham Central.

The South led 5-4 after Wednesday’s rounds Also winning for the South were the Class 5A Player of the Year Andrew Crockett of Starr’s Mill and his partner Jaden Hall of Northgate (4 & 3).

On Thursday, players were on the course in groups of four, but each group contained two singles matches. The South won 10 points to eight for the North to take the overall match 15-12.

Clark won his match against Jeremy Smith of Blessed Trinity 5 & 4. Kebler halved his match with Brennan Manson of North Hall. For the South, Mario Perezcassar III  of Carrollton won 5 & 4, Jaden Hall won 2 & 1, Wesley Hanson of First Presbyterian Day won 3 & 2,, Ana Thorne of Veterans won 2 & 1, Lindsey Dull of Northgate won 7 & 5, Kylee Wheeler of Ware County won 4 & 3, and Olivia Hickson of Glynn Academy won 1 up.

Nylan Washington of Arabia Mountain halved with Worley, Mary Catherine McDaniel of Columbus and Karsen Kimsey of White halved, as did Dorminey Johnson of Burke and Hannah Jones of Blessed Trinity.
