Man painted blue, accused of running naked
MOULTRIE, Ga. — It was not known whether a Moultrie man arrested on Tuesday was trying to reenact the movie “Braveheart” or wanted to be a Smurf, but family members called police after he reportedly had painted himself blue and frolicked naked outdoors.
Waylon Joe Selph, who is no stranger to police, was arrested after an officer used his Taser to stop him as he tried to outrun deputies in a wooded area near his 235 Kendalwood Drive residence at about 12:40 p.m. Tuesday.
When deputies encountered him, “Waylon appeared to be covered in a blue paint, but at this time he had (on) an orange shirt and black pants,” Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office reports said.
When a deputy arrived, a family member told him that after painting himself blue Selph ran around outside with no clothes on in view of neighbors. At that time he was in a camper in the back of the residence, but exited it and ran toward the wooded area when the officer approached, police said.
A second deputy put an end to the chase with the Taser.
A neighbor told police that she saw Selph running around the yard with no pants or shirt on, but could not determine whether or not he was wearing underwear.
“(She) also stated that she was not trying to look because she was embarrassed,” reports said.
Other family members said that Selph had been paranoid and “talking nonsense” earlier.
Selph, 37, was taken into custody on a public indecency charge, police said.
Selph has been arrested a number of times, including in July 2014 on charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving, open container in vehicle, driving without a license, fleeing or attempting to elude police officer, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to drive within a single lane, failure to yield to emergency vehicle and obstruction of an officer.
That indictment came about two months after he was indicted on charges of interference with government property, obstruction of an officer and disorderly conduct related to a January 2013 incident in which police said that Selph kicked out the windows of a Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office patrol car after police arrested him during a domestic-violence call.
In September 2015 police arrested him on a pedestrian under influence charge.
