2 charged with theft of services

MOULTRIE — Two occupants of a northeast Moultrie home were arrested Wednesday on theft charges when both denied restoring power inside the residence using a set of jumper cables. Marvin Clifton Blair, 35, and Jonathan Akes, 23, both of 709 E. Central Ave., were each charged with theft of services.

Moultrie utility workers notified police Thursday morning that someone had attached the cables to the meter box in order to steal electricity. Workers who responded to power-failure alarms at the residence the previous two days also had found jumper cables attached to the power supply box.

Blair told officers that while playing cards with some friends “the power just came on” and that he had been living there since December with no electricity, police said. Akes told them that he had been staying there only three days and had just arrived home before their arrival to find that the power had been restored.
