3 work days scheduled as Roadrunner Trail System expands
DALTON, Ga. — The Roadrunner Trail System at Dalton State College is expanding. The community is invited to participate in workdays to help in the construction of the newest trail, the Ridge Trail. Upcoming workdays are Friday, April 5; Saturday, April 13; and Saturday, April 27. Each workday will go from 8 a.m. to noon. “Workday volunteers will meet at the Big Rock Trail kiosk at the south end of campus, near the intramural field,” said John Lugthart, a professor of biology who oversees the trail system. “Volunteers should wear long pants, sturdy boots, and bring work gloves and water. Trail construction tools will be provided. The work will be strenuous.” “The Ridge Trail will connect with both the Big Rock Trail and the College Creek Trail,” he said. “The trail will be approximately two miles in length with the western portion of trail running along the top of Rocky Face Ridge with some good views both east and west.” A ribbon cutting for the Ridge Trail will be announced later. Recognized in 2016, the three-mile Roadrunner Trail System is a public trail system, consisting of three hiking trails located on the ridge behind campus. For more information about the Roadrunner Trail System or the workdays, contact Lugthart at 706-272-2485 or at jlugthart@daltonstate.edu.
Active shooter training Tuesday at Moultrie school
MOULTRIE, Ga. — Residents in Northwest Moultrie may hear the occasional bang of gunshots and see large numbers of officers Tuesday as police conduct active-shooter training at C.A. Gray Junior High. Officers will conduct the training and drills to maintain readiness and hone skills needed if they ever need to respond to such a situation. The training will involve multiple law enforcement agencies. Officers in Colquitt County have been trained in ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training), a nationally recognized law enforcement training for responding to active shooters. “Training has been conducted at Colquitt County High School, and we hope to train at as many schools as possible in Colquitt County,” said Moultrie Police Department Lt. Michael Cox. “This gives law enforcement a chance to learn each school’s layout.”
