Woman accused of slipping items through self-checkout

MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Pavo woman’s efforts to cut down on holiday shopping expenses apparently crossed the line into theft when, police said, she tried to leave a store with some $250 worth of stolen merchandise.

Wal-Mart, 641 Veterans Parkway S., requested police Thursday afternoon after an employee noticed a woman who appeared to be swiping two items through the self-checkout lane, resulting in the machine only recording one of the items.

An officer watched video that indicated the same thing, police said. When the officer spoke with Terri Clarice Olliff, she said that she was in a hurry and may have inadvertently missed scanning some of the merchandise.

Olliff could not provide a receipt for the items that she did scan and for which she paid, police said. She offered to pay for the merchandise that had not been scanned.

The items in her cart that were not paid for totaled $258, police said, and included toys, clothing, a karaoke machine, keyboard, guitar and knife.

Police charged Olliff, 37, 181 Gay Road, with theft by shoplifting.
