Mom tracks stolen bicycle; police arrest suspect
MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie woman whose son’s bicycle was stolen March 29 tracked it down online, where it had been advertised for sale, helping police recover the bike and arrest a suspect who was spotted riding it.
Stacey Barnes, of the 1600 block of Sunrise Avenue, reported that the maroon Huffy was taken from the yard of her residence. She reported that it had a new seat cover and tires with gash marks that she would recognize.
The next day Barnes called police to report that she had found a posting on Facebook of the bicycle for sale by a man named Terrance Osby. She then had police follow her to a convenience store where she thought they would see Osby.
On the way an officer saw someone matching Osby’s description riding a bicycle on Veterans Parkway South.
Barnes confirmed the bike he was riding was the stolen one based on the seat and marks on the tires, police said, and it was returned to her. She told the officers that the tire covers had been spray painted and the chain guard removed after it was taken.
Police charged Osby, 27, 1108 Grant Court, with theft by taking and failure to appear.
He told police that he purchased the bicycle at a pawn shop a couple of weeks earlier and had been out of town the previous day. He also told police that he was asking $45 for it.
