Heroes highlighted at homecoming parade

Taylor Holmes named Queen

TIFTON — Tift County residents got into the homecoming spirit Thursday evening, with hundreds lining Tifton’s streets for the annual homecoming parade.

The theme “The real heroes of Brodie Field” was adapted by nearly every group participating in the parade, especially Tift County schools. Many school floats — particularly by the elementary schools — featured plenty of superhero-clad teachers and students. The Blue Devil Brigade band marched and played, prom queen and king candidates rode in vehicles, athletes from many sports marched and clubs were represented as well. SkillsUSA brought up the rear of the parade, with those students’ float featuring a miniature firing cannon.

The parade route began at Eighth Street Middle on Baldwin Drive, continued west on 8th Street, turned south on Virginia Avenue past the Tifton Mall and onto 2nd Street before returning to school via Victory Drive.

At half-time of the Tift County High School’s football game against Mill Grove, Taylor Holmes was crowned as Tift County’s 2018 Homecoming Queen. Second runner-up for queen was Iris Aguilar and Lillie Turner was first runner-up.
