Soccer kicks up Get-A-Mammy
VALDOSTA, Ga. – Approximately $1,800 was raised for Get-A-Mammy Tuesday thanks to a soccer game hosted by Coach Suzanne Kluball and the Lowndes Middle School girls soccer team.
Two hundred middle and high school students lined the field, honoring those affected by breast cancer.
“I can honestly say this event left me speechless,” Kluball said. “The kids fell silent as the ceremony opened as we honored the women on the field and took seriously the reason for the day. I think the impact of the day was more than I could have ever imagined.”
Each of the teams from across Lowndes County played a round-robin-style tournament in designated uniforms. The field was decorated with the breast cancer symbol – a pink ribbon.
The money raised from the game and silent auction will be used by Get-A-Mammy to fund mammograms to help catch signs of breast cancer in its earliest stages.
“This day was about awareness, and I think we were able to do just that. My kids walked away with a new perspective and a bit of humbleness, and I am proud of that,” Kluball said. “They played, they had fun and most importantly, they understood what the day was about and honored and thanked the women that came out. It was an awesome day for all of Lowndes County Soccer and breast cancer awareness.”
