I-75 travel alert

UPDATE 11:30 a.m.: I-75 has been reopened in North Florida

Authorities in North Florida have cautioned motorists that due to heavy fog and smoke, Interstate 75 has been closed near the Suwannee-Columbia county line. Southbound traffic is being detoured off at US 129 at the Jasper exit at mile marker 451 where travelers will travel south on 129 to I-10 where they can travel east to reconnect with I-75.

The northbound traffic is being detoured off the interstate at County Road 136 at the White Springs exit at mile marker 439 where travelers will need to travel east on CR 136 to US Highway 41 north to US Highway 129, where they will travel south to get back on to I-75.

The road closure happened around 7 a.m. Tuesday morning with low visibility near mile marker 440 according to Florida Highway Patrol. The interstate is closed from mile marker 439 to 451.

The smoke is from a controlled burn in the area according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
