Lake City nurse arrested for soliciting minor

LAKE CITY, Fla. — A Lake City nurse was arrested Tuesday for solicitation of a minor for sex and transmission of materials harmful to minors.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement began an investigation into 41-year-old Matthew Neil Melvin, an advanced practice registered nurse, on May 9 after allegations surfaced of sexual assault against one of his male juvenile patients.

According to a release, FDLE investigations believe the suspect inappropriately touched the child during a physical exam.

The release states the suspect later sent Snapchat messages to the victim with sexual innuendoes.

An undercover agent posed as a boy and began communicating with the suspect, the release states. During that communication, the suspect indicated he wanted to sexually assault the child and sent a photo of his underwear showing his groin area.

The release states the suspect also tried to meet with the agent posing as the child.

Melvin was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Columbia County Jail. FDLE said additional charges are pending.

If anybody has information about the suspect as it deals with the current case, they should contact FDLE Live Oak at 800-226-5630.

The Suwannee and Columbia County Sheriff’s Offices are assisting with the investigation.
