Spear earns heroic gear from Everfan
THOMASVILLE — Rylen Spear zipped through the hallways of Harper Elementary on Friday in his newly-acquired superhero gear.
Everfan gave Spear, 4, a cape and mask for his heroic feat during a car accident involving his family.
Kimberly Robinson, Spear’s mother, said the accident occurred coming back from Tallahassee, Florida on April 13.
Robinson overcorrected and crashed and was ejected from the vehicle. She recalled seeing her car flip over three times.
Spear and his two younger siblings were still inside.
“I could hear them screaming and hollering,” Robinson said.
Robinson’s children were eventually rescued after Spear unlocked the car door, all while keeping his sister and brother calm.
“He remained so calm, he was so brave.” Robinson said.
The vehicle, Robinson said, “was up in flames” shortly after being rescued.
Robinson had four broken bones near her spinal cord, fractured ribs and a bruised lung from the accident.
One child had a minor injury, Robinson said, and the other two were unscathed.
Said Robinson: “It was kind of like a miracle.”
Along with Everfan awarding a cape, mask and a “Hero Award,” Spear also was given a bicycle from the Harper pre-kindergarten class. Alli Cunningham, Harper teacher Glynn Cunningham’s mother, purchased and donated the bicycle on behalf of the pre-K class.
