Missing child found, arrest made
ADEL, Ga. — A child who vanished after a trip to the park in Adel Wednesday has been located and her babysitter arrested, according to police.
The child, age 2, was unharmed, said Lt. Chris Griffin, chief investigator for the Adel Police Department. Angelina Shebester, 20, of Adel, has been charged with kidnapping, he said.
Shebester was babysitting the girl when the child’s family returned home, Griffin said. The family allowed Shebester to take the girl to a park around 3:15 p.m., he said.
Police received a call that the child was missing around 4 p.m., the lieutenant said.
A man picked up Shebester and the child and drove them to Sparks, Griffin said. The man didn’t know the child had been abducted and had simply offered them a lift, he said. The man has not been charged with anything, Griffin said.
Shebester and the child were found at 10:25 a.m., the lieutenant said.
Griffin described Shebester as “delusional,” believing the child was hers.
Shebester faces her first court appearance in Cook County Friday, the lieutenant said.
“We would like to thank the FBI’s Valdosta office, the (Georgia Bureau of Investigation)’s Douglass office, the Cook County Sheriff’s Offie, the Sparks Police Department and community support in Lakeland,” Griffin said.
