‘The Nutcracker’ returns to the stage in Thomasville

THOMASVILLE – South Georgia Ballet’s annual holiday tradition, “The Nutcracker,” returns to the stage this December, at the Thomasville Municipal Auditorium.

The ballet will have two performances only, Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8.

The production will feature a live orchestra, conducted by Boyan Bonev, generously funded by the Edward C. Fogg, III and Lisabeth A. Fogg Charitable Trust. The live music adds an extra layer to the performance, making this year’s “The Nutcracker” different than last year’s production.

In addition to the South Georgia Ballet’s dancers, this year’s production will feature two guest artists. Chandler Proctor and Katherine Ochoa are from the prestigious Cincinnati Ballet. Additional highlighted dancers include Maggie Brock, who will portray “Clara” and Dylan O’Neal, who will portray the “Nutcracker Prince.”

Also, the Moultrie dancers include Gigi Gallagher and Adi Grace Evans.

Melissa June, artistic director of South Georgia Ballet, said “The Christmas season hasn’t begun in Thomasville until The Nutcracker comes to the Municipal Auditorium. The joy that this magical show brings to our community is a tradition that many of us cherish. I am so excited to showcase the many gifts that our incredible children bring, along with the treat of a live orchestra and amazing guest artists from the Cincinnati Ballet with our audience!”

“We are grateful for our show sponsor, Thomasville National Bank, and their support in helping us bring this holiday classic to life! Their continued partnership enables us to share the magic with our community and is an invaluable piece of continuing to make South Georgia Ballet the premiere Ballet company in South Georgia,” added Rachel Arnold, executive director. “We are greatly appreciative for all our parent volunteers, community adult party guests, sponsors and ticket buyers to continuing to make this holiday tradition continue!”

Tickets for “The Nutcracker”are available now at southgeorgiaballet.org. Since the production is expected to sell out, patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets early.

June said, “The Nutcracker is an important thread to the incredible fabric of cultural experiences woven into our community. It is one of the traditions that makes Thomasville so special!”
