A health advisory issued Monday afternoon addresses coronavirus concerns related to restaurants and social gatherings.

At restaurants, there will be no dine-in service, take-out or delivery only, no buffets and no more than 10 employees in a restaurant at the same time.

“At this point, it’s an advisory,” said Mike Stephenson, Thomas County manager. “We’ll see how it works. We might have to take further action later, depending on the circumstances.”

The advisory also calls for no more than 10 people at a social gathering for any purpose.

Thomas County, Thomasville, Thomas County Health Department and emergency management officials met Monday morning to discuss restaurants and social gatherings.

Thomas County has four confirmed coronavirus cases.

“People are already using social distancing,” said Chris Jones, Thomas County Emergency Management Agency director.

In particular, restaurants are practicing social distancing, Jones said.

“They want to stay open and are doing everything possible to make that happen,” he added. “We need local restaurants but also must be wiser working through the situation, regardless of how long it takes.

“It’s a personal responsibility,” Jones said.
