Authorities investigating shooting
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — For the fourth time since last weekend, a shooting has been reported in Baldwin County.
The latest such crime took place Wednesday night at a residence on Barnes Avenue, but the crime wasn’t reported to local authorities until early Thursday.
Fortunately, no one was injured.
Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Joshua Holcomb said a residence where an elderly woman lived was damaged by gunfire about 8:40 p.m.
The woman said she was inside talking with a friend at the time of the shooting.
In an incident report, Holcomb said when he arrived at the residence he saw a single bullet hole in the frame of the front storm door.
The deputy said he interviewed both victims in the case at 1:21 a.m. Thursday.
The woman who lives in the house where the shooting occurred told Holcomb that she and her friend heard several gunshots the night before. The deputy said the woman who had called to report the crime to the sheriff’s office told him that the reason she didn’t call the night before was that she didn’t think anybody wanted to do her any harm.
Shortly after hearing the gunshots, the woman said she saw a man, described as black, walking across her front portion of her yard.
The woman said she later discovered a bullet hole in the frame of her storm door, as well as several shell casings in her yard. The woman told the deputy she picked up the shell casings and gave them to the deputy when he arrived.
Holcomb said in his report that there were three such shell casings and that they appeared to have been fired by .40-caliber handgun.
Upon closer examination of the front door frame, Holcomb said he discovered an embedded o-projectile.
