Viral video: Woman makes amazing hockey goal, wins truck

Some folks are calling it a “miracle on ice.”

A 59-year-old woman who had never held a hockey stick made a nearly impossible goal, sending a puck into a tiny opening to win a brand new truck.

It all started on the morning of Dec. 17, when Brenda Hewlett went into her local Ford dealership in Massena, N.Y., to get some service work done on her existing truck.

She said she wished she could afford a new truck because hers was “falling apart,” according to Scott Coupal, general manager at Frenchie’s Ford. The service manager told Hewlett to fill out a form to enter for a chance to win a new 2012 Ford F150, so she did. That night, she got her chance to win big during halftime at a game for the Akwesasne Warriors professional hockey team.

Hewlett was asked to hit a hockey puck into an opening not much bigger than the puck itself, from three-quarters of the way across the rink.

In a shot that surprised everyone – including the radio announcer who was casually describing the events – Hewlett hit the puck straight across the rink and it disappeared right into the hole.

The arena erupted in applause and Hewlett broke down in tears. Warriors players skated back on the ice to congratulate her.

“Like I’ve always said, angels are upon us (and) miracles do happen,” Coupal wrote in describing the events. “It couldn’t have happened to a nicer hard-working woman than Mrs. Hewlett.”
