Inmate dies at Colquitt County Jail; GBI investigating
MOULTRIE — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of an inmate at the Colquitt County Jail, although the Colquitt County coroner said no foul play is suspected.
The female inmate, age 48, had been incarcerated about two days, Coroner Verlyn Brock said.
“She apparently turned sick and died,” he said.
Brock did not know what the woman had been arrested for.
GBI Special Agent in Charge Jamy Steinberg said his office was called into the case at noon Thursday, June 6.
An autopsy is planned for Monday, both Steinberg and Brock said.
“We are waiting on autopsy and toxicology results to aid us in our investigation,” Steinberg said. “The case is active and ongoing at this time.”
