Projectile from gunfire barrage strikes passing vehicle

THOMASVILLE, Ga. — A motorist northbound on N. Martin Luther King Drive early Wednesday heard one gun shot, then more shots, and realized his vehicle had been struck by a projectile, according to reports.

When the man arrived at his Elizabeth Street residence about 2 a.m., he discovered his Dodge Charger had been struck on the driver’s side by a bullet and notified police. He said he was not injured, but startled by the gunfire.

The resident told police the gunfire almost caused him to travel off the street.

The man said “he did not know who was shooting at him or for what reason they were shooting at him,” a police incident report stated.

Police went to the area near the North MLK and N. College St. intersection and found three small-caliber shell casings.

Police have no suspects, said Maj.Wade Glover, Thomasville Police Department public information officer.

“He (the victim) said he did not have any enemies, whatsoever, and was riding down the road and heard shots,” Glover said.

Glover said stray bullets can hit anyone and anywhere.

“Once a bullet leaves a weapon, there’s no getting it back,” he said.

Anyone with information about the gunfire is asked to call police at 226-2101 or 911.
