Patel joins national honor society

ATLANTA — The National Society of High School Scholars recently announced Aarav V. Patel of Moultrie has been selected to become a member of the esteemed organization.

The Society recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment, according to a press release announcing Patel’s induction.

On behalf of NSHSS and our co-founder, Claes Nobel, a member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes, I am honored to recognize the hard work, passion and commitment that Aarav has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence,” said NSHSS Co-founder and President James W. Lewis. “Aarav is now a member of a unique community of scholars — a community that represents our very best hope for the future.”

“We are proud to provide lifetime membership to young scholars to support their growth and development,” Lewis said. “ We help students like Aarav build on their academic success by connecting them with learning experiences and resources to help prepare them for college and meaningful careers.”

NSHSS members automatically become lifetime members at the time of their initial membership, the society’s press release said. Each step along the way — from high school to college to career — NSHSS connects outstanding young scholars with the resources they need to develop their strengths and pursue their passions.

Practical Nursing students honored in pinning ceremony

THOMASVILLE — On July 24, Southern Regional Technical College held a pinning ceremony honoring the most recent class of Practical Nursing students representing the SRTC-Bainbridge, SRTC-Thomasville, and SRTC-Tifton cohorts. The ceremony commemorates the students’ successful completion of their nursing coursework and clinical rotations.

The graduating class of Practical Nursing students includes Rhonda Frye of Doerun and Briunna Holt, Tameko Palmore, Ana Vasquez and Diana Zamora, all of Moultrie.

Surgical Technology students recognized

THOMASVILLE — On July 24, Southern Regional Technical College recognized six graduating Surgical Technology students at a pinning ceremony at SRTC-Thomasville honoring their achievements. Among them was Jenni Hernandez of Moultrie.

Each of the graduating students completed multiple semesters of rigorous prerequisite and occupational coursework, including a series of clinical rotations at local medical offices. Graduates of the program receive a surgical technology associate of applied science degree and are qualified for employment as a surgical technologist, as well as eligible to sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist examination through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.

The Surgical Technology program at SRTC prepares students for careers in operating rooms and surgical facilities, SRTC said in a press release. Students learn to prepare operating rooms, arrange equipment, and assist doctors during surgeries. The program emphasizes surgical procedures, aseptic techniques, medical terminology, anatomy, pharmacology, and the interpersonal skills necessary for success in this dynamic field.

Pinning ceremony honors Nurse Aide graduates

THOMASVILLE — On July 16, Southern Regional Technical College recognized eight graduating Nurse Aide Accelerated students at a pinning ceremony at SRTC-Thomasville honoring their achievements.

The Nurse Aide Accelerated Technical Certificate of Credit Program is approved by the Georgia Medical Care Foundation. During their five-week accelerated program, the students completed the classroom training, laboratory practice, and clinical rotations required to earn their Nurse Aide certification. These graduates are now eligible to sit for the National Nurse Aide Assessment program which determines competency to become enrolled in the Georgia State Nurse Aide registry.

Among the students honored were Carlee Boozer and Erica Love, both of Moultrie.

Pearson earns Master of Arts

CONWAY, Ark. — Richard Pearson of Moultrie graduated with a Master of Arts degree from the University of Central Arkansas during fall commencement May 3 and 4 in the Farris Center on campus.

Degrees and certificates were conferred to approximately 1,600 graduates from the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; College of Business; College of Education; College of Health and Behavioral Sciences; College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics; and Graduate School.

Colquitt Countians among AP Scholars at Brookwood

THOMASVILLE — Brookwood School, a private school in Thomasville, recently announced that 33 of its students were accredited following Advanced Placement examinations.

Among them were four Colquitt County students.

Created by the College Board for high school students, Advanced Placement curricula challenge students with college-level coursework. Upon completion of the year-long course and ensuing examination, students are evaluated on a 5-point scale in which a score of 3 or better may result in placement and course credit at colleges and universities.

Students who score a 3 or better on three or more AP exams are identified as AP Scholars. Thirteen Brookwood students were named AP Scholars, including Naya Williams of Colquitt County.

AP Scholar with Honor is a title awarded to students who earn scores of 3 or better on at least four Advanced Placement exams, and score an average of 3.25 or higher on all AP exams taken. Five Brookwood students received this honor, although none were from Colquitt County.

By earning a score of 3 or better on at least five exams, and scoring an average of 3.5 or higher on all AP exams completed, students are acknowledged as AP Scholars with Distinction. Brookwood’s 13 AP Scholars with Distinction included three Colquitt Countians: Grayson Baker, Katherine Jones and Andrew Strickland.

Leroux named to the University of Delaware Dean’s List

NEWARK, Del. — Mauri Leroux from Moultrie has been named to the University of Delaware Dean’s List for the Spring 2024 semester.

To meet eligibility requirements for the Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled full-time and earn a GPA of 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale) for the semester.

Crist earns degree from UNG in summer 2024

DAHLONEGA — For the summer 2024 semester, the University of North Georgia awarded about 500 degrees and certificates to graduates. About 260 of the graduates participated in the summer 2024 commencement ceremony held July 26 at the Convocation Center at UNG’s Dahlonega Campus.

Emma Crist of Moultrie graduated with a Master of Science in Kinesiology.
