Valdosta man sentenced for deadly collision
VALDOSTA — A Valdosta man pleaded guilty Monday to charges stemming from a deadly Lowndes County collision in 2015, according to the district attorney.
Jeremy Mack Carter, 37, of Valdosta was sentenced to two consecutive 15-year prison terms, one for each count of vehicular homicide, Southern District Attorney Brad Shealy said.
Carter received the prison terms as part of a plea deal, Shealy said.
The charges stem from a Feb. 27, 2015, incident where a Ford F-150 pickup truck attempted to pass a school bus along Old Clyattville Road and collided with a Ford Mustang.
Logan Paige Shelley, 22, of Pinetta, Fla., and Kyle Naville, 23, of Valdosta were in the Mustang; they were both killed and declared dead on the scene, according to Georgia State Patrol reports.
Carter, who drove the truck, had a blood alcohol concentration of .187 grams of alcohol, a report said.
Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office personnel located Carter in Hamilton County, Fla., where he was taken into custody, reports stated.
A confirmation hearing is planned for Dec. 4 to determine whether the sentence is appropriate or if the judge should reduce it, Shealy said.
“We wanted to go ahead and sentence him so he couldn’t withdraw his guilty plea,” he said.
