That’s nuts! Thief makes off with half-ton of pecans

MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Tuesday night break-in at a Moultrie business netted the thief about a half-ton of pecans.

Lastinger’s, 320 E. Central Ave., reported on Wednesday morning finding a roll-up door bent and pulled out about a foot. A tub that held 900 to 1,000 pounds of pecans was empty.

The pecans, owned by Covington Pecan in Opp, Ala., were valued at $1,500.

Thefts

Moultrie Police

• Deborah Robinson, 300 block Ninth Street Southeast, reported Wednesday the theft of an LG 49-inch television valued at $2,000.

She identified a suspect in the theft to police.

• Tia Rice, 29, Moultrie, reported the theft of an LG-7 smart phone that her son misplaced at a store in the 200 block of Sixth Street Northwest.

Police spoke with a store empoyee who told them that no video showed anyone taking the phone.

• Sheree Rickett, 60, reported Wednesday finding her son’s stolen Mongoose mountain bike at a Moultrie pawn store.

An employee there told police that a man had sold the bike there for $40.

• Jasmine Lewis, 500 block 11th Court Southeast, reported Dec. 23 that a male relative stole a $100 bill out of a change jar in her residence.

Lewis told police that while she was in the restroom she heard the sound of the change jar being moved and noticed the $100 missing when she came out. When she confronted the relative about it he left running toward Third Street Southeast.

Police patrolled the area but did not find the suspect.

• Melissa Sellers, 40, Moultrie, reported Dec. 23 the theft of a purse and contents valued at $12.

Robbery

Moultrie Police

• Marco Palacious, Moultrie, reported Wednesday that he was robbed of a cell phone valued at $200 and other property worth $120 on Shy Manor Drive.

Battery

Moultrie Police

• Carnell Smith, 45, Moultrie, reported Dec. 23 that a male acquaintance hit him while he was in the 700 block of Sixth Street Southeast, and when he began fighting his attacker three other males jumped him.

Smith had red marks on his knees and stomach, police said.

Disorderly conduct

Moultrie Police

• Priscilla Brown, 600 block Fourth Avenue Southwest, reported Dec. 23 that a male acquaintance kicked open her front door and used vulgar language toward her and a relative.

Brown told police that the man previously ended a relationship with her female relative and that they feared him because he reportedly was involved in gang activity and carried a gun.

• Lakeisha Johnson, 600 block 11th Street Southeast, reported Dec. 23 that a male relative threw an opened beer at a female acquaintance.

She told police that he also threatened to slash her car tires after she went to sleep.

Police charged Rico Laran Haynes, 21, with disorderly conduct.

• Bobby Lee Arnold, 200 block Second Avenue Northwest, reorted Wednesday being awoken at 5:02 by the sound of breaking glass.

When he investigated he saw that a living room window had been broken.
