Police probe infant left in vehicle

A local six-month-old remains in the hospital Wednesday after being left unattended in a vehicle for several hours.

Around 2:30 p.m. Monday, Officer David Descoteaux responded to an apartment in the 2400 block of Brantley Way in reference to a call for medical assistance, according to an official incident report from the Milledgeville Police Department. As Descoteaux was en route to the location, he received word from Baldwin County dispatchers that the baby’s grandmother, whose name has not been released, was rushing the boy to the Oconee Regional Medical Center.

Upon hearing that the boy had already been removed from the vehicle, Descoteaux changed direction and made contact with the grandmother at ORMC. Although doctors there were able to stabilize the baby’s condition, they were forced to transfer him to the Navicent Health Center in Macon.

A Wednesday press release from the MPD listed the Health Center as the infant’s current location, but hospital officials did not immediately respond to inquiries regarding the boy’s condition. The baby had reportedly been unattended for more than five hours.

The Union-Recorder will provide updates on this story as soon as they become available.
