Four Colquitt Countians attend Boys, Girls State

MOULTRIE — Four rising seniors from Colquitt County High School recently attended the Georgia American Legion Boys and Girls State camp at Valdosta State University.

Moultrie American Legion Post 324 sponsored Angel Garcia, Jesus Luna, Maria Tomas, and Savannah Tyson for this year’s Boys and Girls State in June.

The students spent a fun filled week learning the political process by organizing a mythical 51st state, according to a press release from the CCHS Marine Corps Junior ROTC program. Each level of government is run by those delegates who are elected to serve. Instruction is presented on the law and court system, parliamentary procedure and Georgia political history.

“The camp is designed to develop a working knowledge of the structure of government and to impress upon the student citizen the fact that our government is just what we make it,” the press release said.
