Valdosta police seek ‘armed and dangerous’ stabbing suspect

VALDOSTA — Police are searching for a “dangerous” suspect in a Sunday stabbing, according to a Valdosta Police Department statement.

An arrest warrant for Morris Jerome Thompson on a charge of aggravated assault has been issued, according to the statement. Thompson should be considered armed and dangerous, and, if anyone sees him, should not approach him but call 911, police said.

Thompson is described by the police statement as a 6-foot-one, African-American male weighing about 235 pounds.

At about 5:55 p.m. Sunday, police officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Hudson Street in reference to a physical dispute between family members.

Upon arrival, officers located a man who was suffering from an apparent stab wound to his neck, according to the statement. Witnesses reported a physical confrontation between the offender and the victim prior to the stabbing, the statement said.

Officers immediately began performing lifesaving first aid on the victim until the arrival of emergency medical services. The victim was then transported to the hospital for treatment, police said.

Officers were told the offender fled the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement, police said.

Police detectives and crime-scene technicians from the Valdosta Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory responded, and several witnesses assisted law enforcement in this case, according to the statement.

The victim is in critical condition, police said.
