Grady EMC asks for help in finding remaining downed poles, transformers

CAIRO, Ga. — The Grady Electric Membership Co-op is asking for assistance from residents in picking up stray debris that may have been missed during hurricane cleanup.

Adam Starr, spokesperson for Grady EMC, said the group has picked up the vast majority of poles and transformers since Hurricane Michael hit the area Oct. 10 but wants to ensure there are no “stragglers” remaining.

“We’ve ridden the lines out and all that, but there’s a chance that a few more are out there,” Starr said.

Residents who know of poles or transformers that have not been picked up should contact Grady EMC by phone at 377-4182 or email at contact@gradyemc.com and provide an address or directions to the debris.

Six individuals have contacted the group informing them of additional broken poles and transformers since Starr first reached out for public assistance Wednesday.

Starr said the group has picked up approximately 650 broken poles and 310 transformers since the storm and was nearing the end of its cleanup efforts.

Starr wanted to thank Grady EMC customers for their patience during the recovery process.

“We’re grateful for our members and we’re grateful for the outpouring of support and love they showed us during the storm,” Starr said. “We appreciate their cooperation as we finish up our efforts.”
