JASPER, Fla. — A New Year’s stabbing landed a Jacksonville man in jail for attempted murder.

According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, an argument between 48-year-old Robert Watkins and the victim began arguing over sex in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day, which led to the suspect punching and stabbing the victim, with multiple knife wounds on the victim’s back and chest.

The victim told authorities that the suspect kept asking for sex after getting drunk and she told him no because they had just met, according to the HCSO report.

The victim said after she went to lie down, the suspect attacked her around 1 a.m., using a small knife, and then wouldn’t let her leave or call for help, the report states.

Eventually, the victim told authorities, she was able to get to a phone and call 911, and a blood trail was observed in the bedroom of the residence as well a spare room, hallway, bathroom and living room, according to the report.

The report states that when authorities arrived, the suspect was standing in the doorway to the residence and raised both arms in the air and dropped to his knees, stating “don’t kill me.”

The suspect also said numerous times that “I didn’t stab that girl” and claimed to have a drug problem, according to the report.

The victim was transported by helicopter to UF Health Shands Hospital for treatment of her serious injuries.

During the search of the house, in addition to bloody sheets and blankets, authorities found a silver Smith & Wesson pocket knife and used condoms.

The suspect was taken to the Hamilton County Jail, charged with kidnap-false imprisonment, sexual assault with weapon or force and obstructing police in addition to the attempted murder.
