MOULTRIE — Tropical Storm Debby has left its mark on Colquitt County, but cleanup is under way.

Four county roads have been closed due to damage from Tropical Storm Debby.

The county posted a list of roads closed as of 4:30 p.m. All three involved trees that had fallen onto power lines.

— Old Berlin Road between Tallokas Road and Nottingham Lane will be closed overnight. There are seven broken utility poles on this road, the county said.

— Taylor Road from Lewis Road, just past 265 Taylor Road.

— Cole Road from Highway 133 to 377 Cole Road and from Perry Road to the same address.

Later in the evening, the county added Jim Sharp Road, 500 feet each side of the bridge from Waites Road and Murray McCranie Road.

Moultrie City Manager Pete Dillard said as of about 5 p.m. no city streets were blocked, but he said that could easily change if more trees fall.

Dillard said about 2:30 p.m. that about 1,000 city utility customers were without power, but by 5 p.m. that number was down to about 40.

“They [utility crews] should have everybody back on before midnight,” he said.

Outages were more significant outside the Moultrie city limits, but even they were minor compared to counties to the east that took a direct hit from the storm.

Just after 6 p.m., Georgia Power’s online outage map showed only three outages in Colquitt County affecting 394 customers.

At that same time, Colquitt EMC’s online outage map showed dozens of outages affecting 4,494 customers of its Moultrie office, which covers Colquitt, Brooks and part of Cook counties.

For comparison, those same maps showed 50 outages affecting 1,152 Georgia Power customers and 135 outages affecting 19,731 Colquitt EMC customers in Lowndes County.
