Man shot in argument; wound apparently minor

MOULTRIE, Ga. — A man shot in the leg on Tuesday night during an argument in Northwest Moultrie apparently did not suffer serious wounds.

Moultrie police were dispatched at about 6:47 p.m. to Colquitt Regional Medical Center to investigate a patient’s arrival with a gunshot wound.

The victim, Prentiss Donaldson, was visiting acquaintances at 412 Third Ave. N.W., where the Tuesday shooting occurred.

“The victim was involved in a verbal altercation with an unknown offender,” Moultrie Police Department Lt. Freddie Williams said. “The unknown subject brandished a firearm and shot him in the leg.”

Donaldson’s injuries were not serious, Williams said.

He was treated at Colquitt Regional and released to return home, a hospital spokeswoman said.

No arrests had been made in the shooting as of Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting occurred almost directly across the street from the 421 Third Ave. N.W. home of Mattie Green Harris, 68, who was found dead outside her residence early on the morning of July 18, police said. No one has been charged in her death.

That section of the city is no stranger to gun violence.

On April 23, Darren Savon Huntley, 23, arrived at Colquitt Regional with a gunshot wound to the back. Huntley told police that an unknown person shot him while he was walking that afternoon in the 400 block of Third Avenue Northwest.

Ironically, at the time, Huntley was awaiting adjudication of an aggravated assault charge in the shooting of Monterrious Haynes. Police said that Haynes was shot with a shotgun at the intersection of Third Avenue and Third Street Northwest a few weeks after several people fired pistols at his car  at the same location.

Haynes reportedly still had bullets lodged in his head and elbow from the earlier attack at the time of the second shooting, police said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which is leading the investigation into Harris’ slaying, has not revealed what caused her death. The agency has said that her death was a homicide, but have provided basically no other information.

A group of area churches and individuals has raised a $1,500 reward that has been offered for the person who helps police catch Harris’ killer.
