Kiwanis Club honors STAR Student Teresa Nguyen

MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Kiwanis Club of Moultrie proudly welcomed this year’s STAR Student, Teresa Nguyen, to a recent meeting.

Nguyen was presented  her award during the meeting by Colquitt County High School Principal Stephanie Terrell. She was chosen for this award based on her academic excellence and passion for art.

Terrell said a new Advanced Placement art course was added to the CCHS roster just for Nguyen: AP Studio Art.

Nguyen has moved seven times during her academic career, but when asked if it was difficult adjusting to a new school each time, she responded, “You get used to it after the second time…”

Every year, the STAR Student may choose to honor a teacher that has had a significant impact on their life. Nguyen chose Dana Cook, a math teacher at CCHS, as her STAR teacher.

Cook was not able to attend the meeting, but Monica Crenshaw accepted the award on her behalf, reading a letter from her about Nguyen. The letter said Cook remembers the many times Nguyen came to her after hours for tutoring and enjoyed when Nguyen shared her artistic talents with her, including a journal full of doodles.

“(Nguyen’s) future is full of endless possibilities,” Cook wrote.

Nguyen was also presented with a financial scholarship sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. She plans to attend the University of Georgia after graduation.
