Local child calls 911, saves mother
TIFTON — A local child used her mother’s cell phone to call 911 after being unable to wake her mother up.
Harmonii Dixon, 4, was used to playing with mother Lateshia Dixon’s cell phone, which is how she knew the passcode to unlock it and dial 911.
Harmonii said that her mom taught her to dial 911 in an emergency, and said that she called 911 because her mom had a headache and wasn’t waking up.
“The police was raising my mommy up because my mom had a headache and then my mommy didn’t wake up.”
According to the incident report, Tift County Fire and Rescue and on officer from the Tifton Police Department responded to the call and were forced to break the door to gain entry, since Harmonii wasn’t able to reach the lock to unlock the door.
They found Dixon passed out on the couch with a bad case of the flu and transported her to Tift Regional Medical Center.
“I went to work the day before, and I think thats when it really got bad,” Dixon said. “I remember taking a shower, and I took some Sudifed, and I guess I went to sleep.”
She said that she didn’t remember anything else until the EMTs were in her living room.
The police officer stayed with Harmonii until family was able to get her.
