teams sweep Lee East

MOULTRIE – The Willie J. Williams Middle School Gold soccer teams swept Lee County East on Monday in Leesburg.
The Gold girls team’s victory raised its record to 2-0.
Coached by Bailey Reynolds and her assistant Leslie Burton, the Gold girls opened the season with a 3-0 shutout at Americus.
The team’s goals were scored by Kenya Leon-Hernandez, Grecia Gallardo and Harley Herndon.
At Lee County East on Monday, Herndon, Vivian Taylor and Zulmy Sarmientos scored goals in a 3-2 victory.
In Monday’s second game, the Gold boys trailed 1-0 at the break and were down 2-0 when the Trojans scored early in the second half.
Colquitt cut the Lee County lead in half with a goal by Jeremy Baltazar, with the assist going to Eli Strickland.
Baltazar then tied the game with his second goal. Bradley Garcia assisted.
Finally, with five minutes remaining, Noah Sims received the ball from Hogan Gallardo and scored what proved to be the winning goal.
The victory evened the Gold boys’ record at 1-1.
The Gold Lady Packers and Packers will go on the road for a third straight time to open the season when they travel to Cairo on Monday, February 10.
