Seventh-grade boys undefeated; middle school girls sweep

MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County seventh-grade boys basketball team remains undefeated after its recent 40-14 victory over Spring Creek Charter School of Bainbridge.
Among their wins are a 30-25 victory over Tifton and a 42-41 decision over Valdosta.
The youngest Packers also have wins over Hahira, Brooks County and Pelham.
The seventh-graders will tip off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Willie J. Williams Middle School gymnasium against Albany’s Radium Springs Middle School.
The seventh-grade team, coached by Nigel Spencer and Donald Key Jr., includes Kaden Spann, Cade Calhoun, Gabe Shepard, AJ McBride, Za’Ryan Yates, Jaheim Flanders, RJ Aldridge Jr., Jason Sutton, Mekhi Fowler, Tyrell (TJ) Wright Jr., Gavin Gliemmo, Standen Reynolds, Cameron Williams, Xylan Spivey and Juelz Irvin. The manager is Ju’lyrian Harper.
The eighth-grade boys are 2-2 with wins over Hahira and Brooks Middle.
They will play at noon on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Willie J. Williams Middle School gymnasium, following the seventh-grade game.
Trey Perkins is coaching the eighth-grade Packers.
The team’s roster includes Kyler Daniels, Jerry Harrison, Jalyn Murphy, Ki’Ahj Madison, Jack Neiman, Maliik Palmore, Kayden Parrish, Demetric (Bobo) Salaam, Ty’Len Stafford, Aden Wiley, Ju’Moni Palmore and Zy’kahrye White.
Also on Thursday, the seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball teams took a sweep at Lowndes Middle School.
The seventh-grade Lady Packers won 54-1, and the eighth-graders won 51-23.
D’Kyra Jones led the way for the younger team, scoring 21 points and Mea Rodriguez had 18.
Caitlyn Singletary contributed five, Laila Myrick added four and Makairi James, Ra’Kyja Sumlin and Paola Mezquite each scored two.
“Our defense is getting better and better,” coach Jon Scroggins said. “We worked hard for turnovers, made good passes, and scored when we got opportunities. I think we are headed in the right direction.”
Tania Young led the way for the eighth-grade girls with 22 points. Delyzsha Tillman added 11, Kaniyah Brown contributed six and Kyndall Pettis and Addison Wiley scored four each. Kylie Pettis and Anijah Moore each added a basket.
“I liked the way we shared the ball tonight,” coach Kim Taylor said. “Everyone was willing to make the extra pass to the player who had the best shot. This group really enjoys playing together.”
The seventh-grade team improved its record to 2-3, and the eighth-grade Lady Packers remain undefeated at 5-0.
The middle school girls will host Valdosta Middle on Monday at the C.A. Gray Junior High School gymnasium.
The seventh-grade game will tip off at 4:30 p.m., with the eighth-grade game to follow.
