Professional volleyball player visits BHS
BRANFORD, Fla. — She was a four-time All-American volleyball player at the University of Florida. And in about one month, Rhamat Alhassan will embark on her professional career.
But before heading to Japan to play for the NEC Red Rockets, Alhassan stopped by Branford High School to help out some Buccaneer volleyball players. She was on the court Wednesday to instruct during Branford’s preseason volleyball camp.
A call from a friend, who is also a teacher at BHS, is what brought Alhassan to Branford.
“Erin Clark and I were at UF together in 2014. She called me up and I was like, ‘yeah, I’m totally down,’” Alhassan said.
“I love volleyball. If I can do my part helping another kid also learn to love it, I always will.”
Not only did BHS players have the chance to learn from a college great, the camp helped build teamwork right before the start of the season.
“It’s a new group. A lot of the girls are not only trying to learn the game, but also learn one another and how to work as a team,” said Branford High volleyball coach Mendy Sikes. “We’re going to spend the night, play some games and hopefully build some bonding.”
