LIVE OAK, Fla. — Sixteen teams from across North Florida will be vying for North State championships in a pair of Babe Ruth Baseball tournaments in Live Oak.

The First Federal Sportsplex and Suwannee Middle School will be the host sites for the 12-year-old North Florida State Tournament as well as the 13-15-year-old tournament.

Live Oak is competing in the 12-year-old tournament, as is a Lafayette team. Live Oak began play Wednesday at 11 a.m. against Fort Caroline. Lafayette’s first game is Thursday at 9 a.m. against Julington Creek.

Also competing in the 12-year-old tournament are Bill Bond, Orange Park, Melrose and South Daytona.

The double-elimination tournament will be played completely at the Sportsplex with games scheduled for Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Competing in the 13-15 tournament are teams from Melrose, West Volusia, Wakulla, Bill Bond, Julington Creek, Tallahassee, Fort Caroline and Fort White. Those games will begin Thursday morning and run through Sunday as well. Games are split between the Sportsplex and SMS.

Hamilton County has a pair of teams vying for North State titles, playing in the 10-year-old tournament and 14-year-old tournament, both being held at Fort Caroline.

Hamilton’s 10-year-old team begins play Thursday at 1 p.m. against the Levy Park-Jacksonville Beach winner.

Also playing in that tournament, which is scheduled to conclude Sunday afternoon, are Julington Creek, Gainesville, Marietta, Pensacola, West Volusia, Fort Caroline and Orange Park.

In the 14-year-old tournament, Hamilton County plays West Volusia at 9 a.m. Thursday. Also competing are Oakleaf and Fort Caroline.

That tournament is scheduled to conclude Saturday.
