MOULTRIE – A man identified by federal officials as a suspect in a California vehicular homicide was arrested Wednesday at a Colquitt County residence.

Meliton Hernandez Vazquez, was arrested at a residence in the 300 block of East Gate Circle by Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

“On the 20th we received notification from the Department of Homeland Security, who had received information that Vazquez was possibly in the area,” sheriff’s Capt. Mike Murfin said. “They had a couple of possible addresses here. They were able to take him into custody without incident.”

Vazquez, 52, is charged in Colquitt County as being a fugitive from justice.

Vazquez is the suspect in a 1992 vehicular homicide case in California, Murfin said.
