DAR, volunteers honor veterans with wreaths

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Former Marine Art Ellis lays a wreath to honor veterans of the U.S. Marine Corps Saturday at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Moultrie as part of the Wreaths Across America ceremony.

Sponsored locally by the Daughters of the American Revolution chapter, the ceremony included roughly 180 wreaths being laid on veterans’ graves at the cemetery on South Main Street or given to relatives of the deceased to lay at other cemeteries.

In addition to Ellis, wreaths to the services were laid by Meg Bishop, U.S. Army; Dr. Robert Bartosh, U.S. Navy; Andrew Christensen, U.S. Air Force; and Susan Turner, the DAR’s Service to Veterans chair, who honored veterans of the U.S. Coast Guard. Dozens of volunteers laid wreaths on the graves of individual veterans.
