Colquitt Regional Medical Center announces new Medical Executive Committee leadership

MOULTRIE — In a press release last week, Colquitt Regional Medical Center announced the election of new leadership within its medical staff, following the hospital’s medical staff meeting held in September.

The following physicians have been elected to serve a two-year term on the Medical Executive Committee:

— Chief of Staff: Gary Swartzentruber, MD, FAAFP.

— Chief of Medicine: Witemba Kabange, MD, FAAFP.

— Chief of Surgery: Curt Starling, MD.

— Medicine Members at Large: Kent Posey, MD and Sarah Nuzzo, MD.

— Surgery Members at Large: Emerson Harrison, MD, FACS, and Cory Porteus, DO.

These leadership positions are voted on by members of the medical staff every two years and one of the medicine and surgery members at large is appointed by the chief of staff.

“We are excited to have these outstanding physicians as a part of the Medical Executive Committee,” said Colquitt Regional President and CEO Jim Matney. “Their dedication and expertise will be invaluable as we continue to enhance the hospital’s service lines, technology, and procedures.”

The hospital’s Medical Executive Committee is responsible for the governance and management of its medical staff. Some of their key responsibilities include leadership and oversight, quality assurance, policy development, credentialing and privileging, education and training, and advocacy of the medical staff.

“This new leadership reflects our commitment to fostering a collaborative environment that prioritizes patient-centered care,” said Hospital Authority Chairman John Griffin. “We are confident in their leadership and that they will work to ensure the continued success of our health system and the delivery of high-quality care for our community.”
