Resident seeks to challenge kids
MOULTRIE — A Colquitt County resident is hoping to take kids’ eyes off of their phones and computer screens to focus their minds on strategy and other games that challenge their brains and help develop quick thinking skills.
Malcolm Anderson III, who opened South Georgia Cards and Games on Friday in Pelham, is donating all profits from his first weekend to victims of Hurricane Harvey.
The store is open from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. today — the same as it will be each week day — and from 2 p.m.-9 p.m. on Sundays. The store is located at 290 W. Railroad St. Suite A.
Opening the store was a dream for Anderson.
“I Uber in Florida,” he said, referring to working as a driver for the passenger and food-delivery company Uber Technologies Inc. to earn the money to get off the ground. “I’ve been trying to get the store open for three years.”
The store will have board and card games, including strategy card games, role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder, Pokemon and board games.
He also hopes to work with local schools to form a chess competition league.
“I’m trying to get the kids away from these,” he said, holding up his cell phone.
He thinks they will learn skills by participating in games with others in contests “where you have to out think your opponent.”
